JOB TITLE Senior Gas Marketer

LOCATION Middle East - Qatar

Roles at this level require competency in Gas Marketing Skills and Business Knowledge, and advanced skills in Business insight, creativity & innovation, communication & influencing, Strategy & Market Analysis, and Customer & Contract development.   The Senior Gas Marketer will assist the Head of LNG Marketing in Negotiations like SPAs, HoAs, Term Sheets and other commercial related contracts and be responsible for market research and analysis.  At this level, the Sr. Gas Marketer should be capable of handling all spot sales activities including negotiation of price, charter hires and terms and should be proficient in the evaluation of customer’s proposals in relation to quantities, prices, shipment size and terms.  Supports the Marketing Team to develop standard contracts for spot sales, term contracts on both FoB or Ex-ship, and assists the Head of Global LNG in preparing arguments, and analyzing & developing strategies for customers.  Inputs are given on Terms and Conditions for maximizing sales price.


Market knowledge and working experience of North American, UK and European domestic markets is beneficial.


1.       Leadership:  

Due to direct interface with Customers, Shareholders, Partners, Government Regulators, Competitors and Sr. Management, the Sr. Gas Marketer must exhibit strong Leadership skills and Management potential.  Must demonstrate ability to coordinate the activities of a multi-functional team (legal, tax, shipping, etc.) and be a strong representative of QG.

2.       Marketing Plans & Strategies: 

Work in partnership with Sr. Commercial Analyst & Head of LNG Marketing to develop market reports, competitive analysis, and Marketing Strategies to capture sales and optimize netbacks. Evaluates customers’ proposals and contributes in relation to quantities, prices, shipping plans, term, creditworthiness, quality specs, etc. 

3.       Business Analysis: 

Maintain up to date information on competitor strategies, pricing, capacity and Market intelligence.  Demonstrated expertise in Market analysis and netback calculations. 

4.       Sales Negotiations: 

Liaison with the Head of Global LNG Marketing and Heads of LNG Marketing to ensure the efficient implementation of Marketing & transportation obligations.  Active participation in negotiations with Customers and development of strategies to support the expansion plans of Qatargas and the realization of future LNG trains.   Capable of closing spot sales transactions. 

5.       Pricing Principles / Recommendations: 

Research, analyze and assess Market and Competitor data to develop Pricing Principles and recommendations.  Understand and develop economic assessments, pricing netbacks / sensitivities, and shipping costs to optimize revenue and support effective negotiations.  Work collaboratively with the Marketing Team in deriving LNG Pricing structures and indexation formulas for Qatargas LNG.

6.       Customer Development:

 Promote Image and Marketing initiatives through attendance at LNG Conferences and Seminars.  Maintain strong Customer Relationships through frequent contacts and networking.  Develop creative and innovative proposals to meet customer expectations to capture new business.

Must be capable of analyzing and assessing risks from multiple competing objectives and priorities by both internal and external customers.


c)   Supervision :

The role holders are regularly supervised and guided by Head of the section.  Will supervise staff assigned to its section, both professionally and administratively.

Knowledge and Skills          :


Role holders of this level must have a well developed Capability to develop a comprehensive understanding of LNG Sales Contracts (ie HOA’s, SPA’s, Term Sheets, GSPA’s, CA’s, etc.).  Excellent verbal and written communication skills. excellent computer skills. Ability to develop and present formal presentations to internal, external and Sr. Management groups. 


Education and Experience  :


B.Sc. Degree from a recognized school in an appropriate discipline (Engineering, Business, Economics and Finance), plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in Oil & Gas and Commercial marketing industry, including at least 3 years in LNG marketing.
