JOB TITLE Drilling Services Superintendent

ROLE DESCRIPTION 1. Role Purpose To allocate, monitor and control Barrick’s Nevada drilling activities in accordance with budgetary objectives, procedures and company core values (outlined below): • Behave Like an Owner; • Act with a Sense of Urgency; • Be a Team Player; • Continually Improve; • Deliver Results. 2. Key Responsibility Areas • Standardize Barrick Nevada drilling practice, equipment and record keeping. • Identify and maintain operational cost reductions and/or productivity improvements to safely and effectively meet drilling targets. • Provide various but specific ‘Drilling Services’ assistance to Geological personnel to safely and effectively develop and execute drill programs (i.e. contracting drilling personnel, safety and training, social, environmental, access and construction). • Liaise with Barrick Nevada’s - Contracts, Environmental and Safety groups to coordinate contracts and tenders. • Promote and participate in the application of new technologies (tools, equipment and fluids). Specific Responsibilities Include: Drill Contracts • Collaborate with Mine, Minex and Contracts teams to uphold the drill tender process for planned programs. The scope of work shall include technical and equipment specification requirements, (identifying appropriate contractors), before communicating with and distributing among the contracts group. • Partner with Barrick project representatives and contract administrators to review the Contractor Safety Assessment Checklist prior to awarding Drilling Services contracts. • Establish protocol, instilling the importance of regular liaison between drilling supervision, management, contracts and contractor representatives for the timely completion of contracts before commencing any drilling activity. Contractor Safety • Implement policy and procedure to assist Drill Managers and Contract Administrators to execute and comply with Barrick’s Contractor Safety Policy. • Drive the process for conducting preliminary start-up safety inspections (post contract award) of all drilling and support equipment, providing accurate and regular reports to ensure rigs and equipment arrive as scheduled and Standard-compliant at Barrick Nevada sites. • Actively engage with preferred drilling contract companies to identify and implement long-term solutions and methods, (such as industry recognised licensing and accreditation) to reduce drilling-related incidents. Production & Project Management Monitoring • Implement an effective daily reporting system to capture individual drill rig data at every project across all sites. Reports will outline each rig’s drill tool sizes, production metering (footage), hours, distribution and notes (i.e. incidents, safety concerns, problems in the hole, etc.). • Collate and review daily reports from each active drill rig and project. • Provide expert drilling advice to Barrick Nevada’s personnel as required. • Conduct regular technical discussions with regional drill managers and project managers to effectively identify and quickly resolve problems. Reporting (Weekly) • Submit succinct drilling reports to Barrick Nevada Geology Manager, and Director – Global Drill Services in order to monitor drilling activity. Reports shall include individual rig information (grouped by project); identify contractors, state the type of drilling used, weekly plus year to date production metering (footage), target depths, drill days and notes (i.e. incidents, safety, personnel or project issues etc.). • Organise and coordinate regular meetings between Business Partner management and Site Management. Submit reports to Barrick Nevada Geology Manager, and Director – Global Drill Services. Program Logistics Support • Regularly visit active drill projects. • Collaborate with Barrick project representatives and contract administrators to provide project logistical support (i.e. mud and fluid additives supply, establishing deviation survey systems support and project consumables supplies, etc.) • Coordinate Drilling Services schedules between regional projects as required. • Identify and report on potential technical modifications at drilling operations that would improve production and/or reduce cost. Submit the details (technical description and recommended action) to Barrick Nevada Geology Manager, and Director – Global Drill Services. Process Improvement • Develop cooperative and positive working relationships with Contractor management representatives and drill operators. • Monitor, review and improve technical applications as required. • Clearly communicate with Barrick management, offering swift and effective solutions. • Promote and participate in the application of new technologies (tools, equipment and fluids). • Conduct regular technical discussions with regional drill managers and project managers to effectively identify and quickly resolve problems. Key Role Qualifications Required • Relevant post secondary school certificate, trade or diploma would be advantageous. • At least ten years’ experience in the mineral drilling sector. • Experience working in remote locations and/or developing countries. 4. Key Skills & Experience Required • Contract drilling experience and/or Business Partner management experience is preferable. • Moderate skill/ability to utilise Microsoft Word and Excel for report writing and data monitoring. • A team player, with strong leadership skills and demonstrated commitment to drilling best practice, safety and the environment. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, possessing the ability to engage with all levels of the organisation, (in the spoken and written word). • Possesses good judgement and strong strategic and organisational ability. • Committed to upholding the highest standards of safety and health excellence. • Is able and willing and most importantly, sensitive to working with people from diverse cultures.
